Bulgarian and Korean Experts Discuss New Security Realities and Opportunities for Cooperation in the Defense Industry

Sofia, June 8, 2026 – The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sofia, the Center for Development and Policies, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Sofia successfully hosted the roundtable discussion „New Security Realities and Opportunities for Cooperation in the Defense Sector.“ The event took place at Grand Hotel Sofia and brought together representatives of government institutions, defense and security experts, and industry leaders from Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea.

The roundtable provided a valuable platform for in-depth discussions on the evolving international security environment, defense modernization efforts, and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea.

Participants exchanged views on a wide range of strategic issues, including defense modernization and strategic planning, regional security developments, industrial and technological cooperation between Bulgarian and Korean companies, and the role of innovation and advanced technologies in strengthening defense capabilities.

Throughout the discussions, participants emphasized the considerable potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in defense, technology transfer, research and development, and the implementation of joint industrial projects. They also expressed their shared commitment to maintaining an active dialogue among government institutions, industry, and the expert community as a foundation for sustainable and mutually beneficial long-term cooperation.

The organizers welcomed the strong interest in the event and the active participation of representatives from both the public and private sectors of the two countries. The roundtable reaffirmed the importance of such forums as platforms for exchanging expertise, building trust, and fostering new partnerships in response to the rapidly evolving security environment.
